Technische Universität Berlin
The four pillars of climate protection and sustainability: Research, Teaching, Practical action, and Commitment
Conducting research for the benefit of society is a core ambition of Technische Universität Berlin (TU Berlin). Climate protection and sustainability are a special focus of the University in this regard: TU Berlin integrates these issues into its teaching, provides dedicated modules and degree programs, deploys research results practically to move toward a climate-neutral campus, and supports staff and students in their personal efforts to protect the climate.
Hundreds of researchers at TU Berlin are already teaching and researching topics with a bearing on climate protection and sustainability in diverse fields ranging from environmental protection to chemistry to energy process engineering. Themes such as alternative powertrains, innovative energy concepts and ecologically-oriented environmental planning are represented among almost 400 current research projects with a green focus. Since 2017, students at TU Berlin have been able to complete a Sustainability Certificate as part of their degree (independently of their specific degree programs) to build up specialist expertise in this area. A Council for Sustainable Development advises the Executive Board and the Academic Senate at TU Berlin on all questions pertaining to sustainability in education, research, operational matters, and the transfer of insights and innovations to society.
